Derrick Rose grew up in Chicago and now he's giving back in a big way. The Bulls point guard is donating a cool $1 million to a local nonprofit that provides out-of-school programs for teenagers.

“After School Matters” helps kids who are almost exclusively minorities living at or below the poverty line. Rose isn’t batting an eye at the sum, telling NBA.com why he made the decision.
“To have a strong community of people who believe in your potential can make all the difference in the world,” said Rose, a native of Englewood, who is a point guard for the Chicago Bulls. “So many people have invested in me and I want to do the same for Chicago’s teens.”
It’s rare to see a player walk-the-walk as much as they talk about helping the community. That’s not to say other athletes aren’t doing wonderful work, but $1 million is on another level.
“My message to our kids is simple - you matter, you deserve every opportunity in life, and you can and should dream big because dreams can come true,” said Rose.
