11 very good dogs we met at the Mets Puppy Parade

Meet Mets fans Noodles and Fizzgig.

On Monday, the greatest press release in the history of man arrived in my inbox:

AMAZIN’ DOGS DRESSED IN NEW YORK METS UNIFORMS TO HOLD PRE-WORLD SERIES “PUPPY PARADE” (TOMORROW)

NEW YORK (October 26, 2015) - Animal rights activist Jean Shafiroff, along with the SPCA and Rescue Dogs Rock, will be hosting the first New York Mets World Series, “Puppy Parade” ever held in Manhattan featuring rescue and shelter dogs wearing New York Mets pet uniforms, Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 11:00 AM, 79 Chambers St. (near Broadway) in Manhattan. As the Mets prepare to open the World Series against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night, a full lineup of Amazin’ animals will trot along city sidewalks with pride, hoping to find a new home while rooting for their hometown Mets.

Dogs? In Mets uniforms? A parade of dogs in Mets uniforms?

I am excited that the Mets are in the World Series. Perhaps you are not, but if a Mets World Series can be used to find some homes for pups and/or other Amazin’ animals, Godspeed.

So I went to the Mets Puppy Parade and present, without further ado, some very good Mets dogs:

The parade kicked off at Shelter Chic, a small shelter in lower Manhattan, where a collection of long-owned, recently adopted, and still-homeless pups gathered along with two-legged representatives from the SPCA and Rescue Dogs Rock, a pet rescue organization:

When the marching began -- with a cheer of “Let’s Go Mets!” -- the procession made it around the corner, to the puzzlement of tourists, schoolchildren, hot dog vendors, and several less-than-patient New Yorkers (“YA BLOCKIN’ THE SIDEWALK!”), before turning back:

The march was organized by Jean Shafiroff, a self-described animal activist, who owns two pit bulls. She made the largely accurate point that if your husband doesn’t come to bed with you, at least your pit bull will.

As of the parade, Dolly, Freddy, and Reno were still looking for homes. Perhaps you have a home, and a dog-shaped hole in your life! I have it on authority that Dolly will love you even if you support Kansas City.
