Tulsa DE returns interception for 89-yard TD, clinches bowl eligibility

Up by four points in the fourth quarter with one minute remaining, Tulsa needed to get a stop. After all, Tulane was on offense and only 11 yards away from a touchdown.

That’s when the heroics of the 254-pound defensive end Kolton Shindelar took over as he intercepted a Jordy Joseph pass. But Shindelar just didn’t kneel down, hoping that the offense would be able to run the clock down to victory. He took it all the way for a 89-yard interception return.

It took a Piesman game-winning touchdown to beat Tulane. But more importantly, Shindelar’s late-game touchdown clinched bowl eligibility for the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, making it the first time the team has qualified since 2012. This is also the first year for coach Philip Montgomery at Tulsa.
