Dirk Nowitzki did a 3-step dance move instead of dribbling

Dirk Nowitzki is a highly regarded, future hall of famer, and a world-class basketball player. Why on earth he decided to take 3 hops before dribbling is beyond me. Dirk obviously knows better so this is one of the strangest things I've ever seen.
