Watch Alex Rodriguez hit his first homer since 2013

He didn’t play last year, so that sounds more impressive than it is. Still, people cheered. PEOPLE CHEERED.

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Alex Rodriguez hit a spring dinger, and fans didn’t gnash their teeth or rend their garments. The half-bull, half-man who represents the old baseball gods didn’t run onto the field and gore everyone in sight. He even got a partial standing ovation:

The guy in the Jeter shirsey at 0:18 isn't so sure, though. One clap, possibly in disgust, then nothing. Does he represent all Yankees fans and their commitment to class? Possibly. Possibly.

A-Rod is going to do baseball things and make baseball news this year. This is but a taste. Steel yourself for the near future, or be prepared to pull your hair out. If he can still hit dingers, he will be a part of your baseball life. A-Rod is dead. Long live A-Rod.
