On Tuesday, word got out there there was not yet a signed contract between the promoters of Mayweather vs. Pacquiao and the MGM Grand, which is the host venue. Which meant that, just days before the biggest fight of the century, tickets were not yet on sale. That contract finally got signed Wednesday and tickets went on sale Thursday, but sold out within minutes, because only a select few tickets were even made available to the general public.
The average ticket for Mayweather vs. Pacquiao is nearly $11,000
That’s ... pretty expensive.
According to Forbes, only between 500 and 1,000 tickets were actually on sale to the public, despite boxing events at the MGM Grand seating around 17,000 people. The rest were divided up by the venue and the camps of the fighters, which means the secondary market is going to thrive off reselling these ridiculously high-priced tickets.
The tickets have face values of between $1,500 and $7,500, but on the secondary market as of Thursday evening, the cheapest available ticket is listed at $4,932 on TiqIQ. The average price of secondary market tickets has been $10.973.14. If anyone has $10K to blow, here you go!
If all of this is just a way to make that $100 pay-per-view price tag seem like a bargain, mission accomplished. Well played, everyone.
