By now, you're probably aware that England lost to Japan at the Women's World Cup, thanks to an awful, heartbreaking own goal by Laura Bassett. People on Twitter were kind and consoling her ... except the Laura Bassett they tweeted at was actually the politics reporter for The Huffington Post, not the soccer player (whose Twitter handle is @laurabassett6.)
Reporter makes ‘SportsCenter’ for World Cup error she didn’t commit

And it led to a funny moment, where HuffPo’s Laura Bassett made it onto SportsCenter:
My SportsCenter debut. It pays to have the same name as important athletes. pic.twitter.com/CtIJnmEvA5
— Laura Bassett (@LEBassett) July 2, 2015 It turns out when you share the name of someone who did something publicly known worldwide, you’re bound to have awkward moments on social media -- yet kind, in Bassett’s instance -- like these folks tweeting at you for something you didn’t do:
@LEBassett You played hard as hell, you have nothing to be ashamed of. Keep kicking butt. God Bless You.
— Tim Cook (@tinytimrocks) July 2, 2015 We love you @LEBassett. Hold your head up high. Great defense all tournament #EnglandWomen
— Francisco A (@familano) July 2, 2015 Keep your head up, @LEBassett. My heart breaks for you. #WWC2015
— David Lewis (@DaveLewissports) July 2, 2015 Wow. Just endless compassion and empathy for poor @LEBassett. That must be so brutal. I hope her team rallies around her.
— Amy Taylor (@amytaylor801) July 2, 2015 HuffPo’s Laura Bassett kind of found it entertaining:
Guys I'm not Laura Bassett the soccer player. But feel free to continue tweeting at me it's kinda fun
— Laura Bassett (@LEBassett) July 2, 2015 But she also sends her condolences to Soccer’s Laura Bassett over that bad moment. Hopefully, they both can grab a drink in the near future:
Condolences to @laurabassett6 for that tough break last night. I feel your pain. Let's get a beer next time I'm in England.
