Things are getting FUN in DeAndre Jordan’s free agency. He is reportedly considering reneging on his verbal agreement with the Mavericks to rejoin the Clippers, and both clubs are now hustling to win him over before July 9 EST arrives, ending the moratorium and permitting Jordan to actually sign a contract.
DeAndre Jordan’s free agency sent the NBA into emoji madness

Dueling contingents are converging on Jordan’s home in Houston to recruit him, and the whole mobilization is being expressed in emoji. It is spectacular. First:
✈️
— Chandler Parsons (@ChandlerParsons) July 8, 2015 OH SNAP, CHANDLER’S EN ROUTE. WHATCHA GOT, CLIPPERS?
— JJ Redick (@JJRedick) July 8, 2015 UH OH, REDICK LIVES CLOSE BY AND HE’S SPEEDING OVER.
But what about Blake? Blake just got to Kauai. Is he *seriously* gonna abort that whole trip to mess with free agency?
✈️
— Blake Griffin (@blakegriffin32) July 8, 2015 BLAKE GOT A DANG CHOPPER. IT’S ON. Even former Clippers are getting in on this now:
— Corey Maggette (@Corey_Maggette) July 8, 2015 (Meanwhile, we wait for Chris Paul to tweet a banana emoji and a boat emoji.)
UPDATE HE ACTUALLY DID EXACTLY WHAT I SAID IN THAT JOKE UP THERE:
— Chris Paul (@CP3) July 8, 2015 And now here’s a late-arriving Paul Pierce getting in on the fun/not really knowing how emoji work:
— Paul Pierce (@paulpierce34) July 8, 2015
That’s a picture of an emoji, dad. Even Mike Woodson understands how this is supposed to work:
— Mike Woodson (@MikeWoodsonNBA) July 8, 2015 Jordan was going to replace Tyson Chandler in Dallas. Chandler has since agreed to a deal with the Suns and doesn’t seem to broken up about the Mavs situation.
☀️✌️
— Tyson Chandler (@tysonchandler) July 9, 2015 Lance doesn’t understand this game:
We need u big bro @deandrejordan6 clippers nation
— Lance Stephenson (@StephensonLance) July 8, 2015 This is no time to use your words, Lance.
Kobe Bryant also got in on the emoji craze, but first he had to figure out what an emoji craze was.
Emoji battle?
— Kobe Bryant (@kobebryant) July 8, 2015 Turns out he’s a quick learner and has won many championships.
Ah ok .. I see .. #mambaout https://t.co/sdx5kpqWwY
— Kobe Bryant (@kobebryant) July 8, 2015 Some variation of “Rings” and /mic drop was a very popular emoji strategy, led by the newly crowned NBA champions.
— Golden St. Warriors (@warriors) July 8, 2015
— Marreese Speights (@Mospeights16) July 8, 2015 James Worthy carefully counted out 16 trophy emojis in case you forgot the Lakers used to be good at basketball.
— James Worthy (@JamesWorthy42) July 8, 2015 Michael Jordan showed off his championships while also reminding everyone he’s the best ever with a goat emoji.
— Jordan (@Jumpman23) July 8, 2015
— Jordan (@Jumpman23) July 8, 2015 Scottie Pippen once again served as Jordan’s sidekick.
Yeah, what MJ said... https://t.co/8zWY0ouR3X
— Scottie Pippen (@ScottiePippen) July 8, 2015 The entire NBA dissolved into emoji madness. The Cavs went there:
☕️
— Cleveland Cavaliers (@cavs) July 8, 2015 Isaiah Thomas went here:
— Isaiah Thomas (@Isaiah_Thomas) July 8, 2015 Baron Davis may or may not have taken a bathroom break.
— Baron Davis (@Baron_Davis) July 8, 2015 Even the Cleveland Browns tried to get in on the fun.
— Cleveland Browns (@Browns) July 8, 2015 That ... uhh did not go over very well.
WAY TO GO BROWNS, YOU RUIN EVERYTHING COOL.
