Dirk Nowitzki bids tearful farewell to Germans after final national team game

What was likely Dirk Nowitzki’s last game in Europe ended Thursday with a tearful standing ovation before the crowd in Berlin as audience members held up signs that read “Danke Dirk.”

It was an emotional curtain call for the German center, who came out of national team retirement to play for Germany for the first time since 2011.

The interview below is in German, but Nowitzki retakes the court to a standing ovation at 1:07.

Germany lost Thursday’s game to a Spanish team that included Pau Gasol, ending the country’s EuroBasket (and Olympic) bid.
