The Texas high school players who tackled a referee during a game this month claimed on Friday that they were acting under orders from an assistant coach.
Texas high school football players who tackled referee say they were following coach’s orders
“While on the sideline he pulled me and another player over and he told us, and I quote, ‘you need to hit him.’”

In an appearance on Good Morning America, one of the players involved, Michael Moreno, said that the coach instructed him, “You need to hit the ref. He needs to pay the price.”
“While on the sideline he pulled me and another player over,” Moreno said, “And he told us, and I quote, ‘you need to hit him.’”
Moreno and other players have alleged that the official directed racial slurs at players during the game. Moreno was joined on Good Morning America by a second player involved in the incident, Victor Rojas, who claimed he heard the official tell another player to “speak English, (because) this is America.”
