College basketball announcer claims Kevin Durant was in ‘Space Jam,’ which is extremely not true

Generally, when a basketball commentator has a wrong opinion or states a wrong fact, I just laugh and smile. Not this time. This fact was so wrong, I am upset that the announcer was not instantly dragged out of the booth by his announcing supervisors and fired on the spot.
Seth Davis' knowledge of Space Jam is incredibly troubling (cc: @rodger_sherman) pic.twitter.com/BlDIoDgyWR
— Luke Zimmermann (@lukezim) January 7, 2016 That's Seth Davis of CBS and the Big Ten Network, talking about Northwestern point guard Bryant McIntosh's off night. He compared his uncharacteristically poor play to the seminal 1996 classic Space Jam, where aliens from outer space steal the talents of various NBA players so they can beat Michael Jordan and various Looney Tunes characters in basketball. Davis goes on to list the players who he thought had their talents stolen:
- Charles Barkley (Correct!)
- Shaquille O’Neal (okay, right time era, but Shaq was not in Space Jam -- you’re probably thinking of Kazaam.)
- KEVIN FREAKING DURANT (NO! NO! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO N ON ONDJAFSOIJDASF;L NO! THIS IS THE MOST WRONG THING IN THE HISTORY OF WRONG THINGS)
Space Jam came out in 1996. Kevin Durant was 8 years old! He was not starring in a movie! He was maybe starring in his elementary school basketball league. Of course, the players who had their talents stolen where Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, as well as eventual NBA Hall of Famers Shawn Bradley and Muggsy Bogues. (Look, if we’re living in a world where people can say Kevin Durant is in Space Jam, I can say Muggsy is in the Hall of Fame.)
It’s possible that Davis is thinking of Thunderstruck, a 2012 movie where Durant’s talents are transferred to a local 16-year-old who got cut from his high school basketball team. I can’t make this clear enough: This film was not Space Jam. Kevin Durant was not in Space Jam.
