Canucks fans stepped in to sing the U.S. and Canadian anthems when the singer’s microphone died

Technical glitches, they happen. Sometimes, unfortunately, they happen when someone sings “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “O Canada.” At Tuesday’s Blues-Canucks game, Jim Byrnes’ microphone cut off towards the end of the American national anthem, but Canucks fans continued where Byrnes left off and finished the song for him. When it came time for “O Canada,” Canucks fans and a microphone-less Byrnes all sang in unison.

It’s not the first time Canadian and American NHL fans shared anthem-singing duties. In November 2014, before a Predators-Maple Leafs game, a singer’s microphone went out during “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and Leafs fans finished it instead. Months later, when the two teams met again in Nashville, Predators fans returned the favor by singing “O Canada.”

This is probably the neatest way to handle U.S.-Canada relations.
