‘Go Cubs Go’ entered the Billboard charts for the 1st time ever

The Chicago Cubs have yet another victory to add to their World Series win: For the first time ever, “Go Cubs Go” charted on Billboard. The publication reported that the 1984 anthem by Steve Goodman entered at No. 21 on its Pop Digital Song Sales chart, and No. 49 on the Hot Digital Song Sales chart for the week ending Nov. 19. The track also got 2.5 million streams thanks to YouTube and Spotify (mostly YouTube, though.)

It’s a nice, posthumous victory for Steve Goodman, who passed away months after “Go Cubs Go” was released. Sure, the song is a bit cheesy (it was written and recorded in the ‘80s, after all), but it’s undeniably catchy, especially when Chicago wins at Wrigley Field, and when Anthony Rizzo, David Ross, Dexter Fowler, and Bill Murray are singing it on Saturday Night Live.

Most importantly, it keeps Goodman’s memory alive for his family, the team, and fellow Cubs fans just like him.
