Kristaps Porzingis’ family sang an acceptance song for his Latvian Athlete of the Year Award
Once upon a time, Kristaps Porzingis was booed by Knicks fans at the NBA draft. He vowed to change their minds once he started playing — it’s been over a year, and now he’s become the Knicks’ best player. He’s done his home country of Latvia proud, so much so that he was awarded Latvian Athlete of the Year. Porzingis himself couldn’t be there to accept the award, but his family was, and instead of giving a loving speech, his grandmother, grandaunt, and two aunts sang for him.
Here are the lyrics, as translated in the video’s subtitles:
We would like to wish to our Porzingis tonight,
Wish you good health and all of [the work] gets easily done,
All those jealous sights should stay away from you,
All the glory and fame for Kristaps while living in America,
God give Kristaps the opportunity to stay at such a high level for a long, long time.
Congrats, Kristaps, and thanks to the Porzingis family for that lovely song.
