Will Gibb should be under strong consideration for any “Pet Owner of the Year” awards yet to be handed out in 2016. Gibb deserves the honor after he saved his dog Sasha by fighting off multiple attacks from a Cougar.
Man punches a cougar in the head to save his dog from a vicious attack

Yes, a Cougar.
Gibb innocently let his two husky dogs, Sasha and Mongo, out of his truck in the parking lot of a Tim Horton’s where he was meeting a friend. That isn’t the start of a story that you expect to end with a man fighting a cougar, but it is.
A cougar came out of some brush and attacked Sasha. Gibb heard the cries from Sasha and went running over.
“I saw something wrapped around her so I ran up and punched it in the side of the head,” Gibb said, via CBC. “At that point I realized it was a cougar.”
That’s right, he punched a live cougar in the head to save his dog. That would be an incredible story on its own. But, it’s only half of the tale.
After punching the cougar in the head, Gibb said he started to chase the animal into the woods. He turned back, however, to tend to Sasha. Sasha was still rattled from the attack and unknowingly bit Gibb’s hand as he tried help her. At the same time, the Cougar came back out of the woods and attacked again.
“[Sasha] was fighting for her life, and I was trying to keep the cougar at bay with my right, and it was pawing at me and I was throwing punches at it.”
Let’s summarize this. At one point on Dec. 26 there was a man in a Tim Horton’s parking lot. That man had a dog latched on to his right hand, biting him. That man was throwing punches with his left hand at a live cougar who was trying to attack him and the dog.
And the story still doesn’t end there.
Sasha stopped biting Gibb and ran off. At that point, the cougar turned its attention to Mongo, who was still in the parking lot.
“I could see the cougar going for him, so I got between him and the cougar and started swinging and screaming at it, and called for my brother and friend to come give a hand,” Gibb said. “And then I reached down for the closest, biggest stick that I could find and I ran back into the trees to go fight the cougar.”
HERO.
After staving off three attacks from the cougar, the animal finally retreated into the woods. Gibb rushed Sasha to a veterinarian where she was treated for bite wounds and cuts, but is reportedly recovering well. Gibb had some cuts on his arms. The cougar was found in the woods and killed by police.
Gibb is at least the second person to fight a wild animal to save a dog. Earlier this year, a man punched a kangaroo that was attacking his dog.
