If Amanda Nunes wasn’t already a star, she became one on Friday night with an impressive, 48-second knockout victory against Ronda Rousey. Even though Rousey was coming off a loss and a 13-month layoff, she remained the biggest star in women’s mixed martial arts.
Amanda Nunes’ dominating victory against Ronda Rousey, in 7 stunning photos

Not anymore.
Nunes dominated the fight from start to finish. Battering Rousey with punches to the face until referee Herb Dean stepped in to stop the fight. Although the fight lasted just 48 seconds, Rousey came away bloodied and battered. This was no fluke, this was a complete annihilation.
The photos from the fight are incredible, and detail just how dominant the champion was.
This was a familiar sight all night. Nunes was the aggressor for all 48 seconds, with Rousey just trying to defend and survive the onslaught.
Of course, being in defense mode still didn’t do much to help Rousey. Nunes landed clean, powerful shot after clean, powerful shot.
Rousey tried to recover, and scramble to get out of trouble. But, she was already too injured and Nunes was too aggressive to let her regain anything.
Eventually, after enough shots, Rousey could barely stand. That was when Dean stepped in to stop the fight, just 48 seconds into the bout.
Many in the crowd were stunned. Rousey had lost once before, but it wasn’t like this. Nunes was not surprised and literally quieted all the doubters, minutes after proving them wrong with her fists.
Rousey left the octagon in defeat. Possibly for the last time in her career.
Meanwhile the champ fully enjoyed her moment. She is now firmly atop the women’s bantaweight division and if her last two fights are any indication, she may be there to stay.
