The Big Ten Network turned into an 80s easy listening radio station mid-game
James Dator has been covering a wide range of sports for SB Nation for over a decade, with a special focus on the NFL.
Something very strange and utterly delightful happened on the Big Ten Network during the Sunday afternoon game between Illinois and Penn State. Those who tuned in didn’t get commentary or analysis. They didn’t even get the sounds of the court. Instead they were treated to some smooth 1980s jams.
Music by Depeche Mode and Morrissey aired instead of the commentators, which, let’s be honest, is a pretty great way to watch basketball. The Big Ten Network turning into a jukebox quickly got the attention of viewers who turned their Twitter account into a request line.
