This Florida golf course alligator is so huge, it kind of looks like a dinosaur
It seems like playing golf in Florida should come with a warning: you may encounter an alligator on the golf course. Like the one at Myakka Pines. Or the other one at Myakka Pines that ate a turtle. Or the one Jeremy Roenick encountered last October. Or the one that delayed the Valspar Championship in 2015. You get the point.
On May 25, Charles Helms and his friend became the next set of people to be added to the “Holy shit, there’s an alligator on the golf course” list, as they encountered an alligator at Buffalo Creek Golf Course in Palmetto, and most likely thought to themselves, “Holy shit, there’s an alligator on the golf course, and it’s so freaking huge.” Helms spoke with ABC Action News about what went through his mind when they saw the creature:
“I didn’t know if we were being punked or something,” says Helms. “It was just laying down, resting, when it got up and started moving towards the big lake,” says Helms who was out on the course with a friend.
“I think that’s two guys in an alligator suit,” Helms said in the video footage, indicating that the alligator is larger than most people usually see (he estimated in the video that it must have been 15 feet long). And part of me wanted that to be true, because then this story would just be about how two guys sneaked into a golf course by way of an elaborate alligator suit, and not about how nature is still fascinating, yet scary to witness.
