Fan tweets and executes plan to run on the pitch to hug Lionel Messi

The start of the second half of the semifinal matchup between Argentina and the United States was briefly delayed because a fan ran on the pitch. It turns out he wanted to meet Lionel Messi.

He got an autograph and two hugs from the best player in the world. That’s pretty successful as far as pitch invaders go, even if he didn’t get a selfie like this fan did with Ronaldo.

The fan was eventually wrangled by security, but not before he got his Twitter handle some shine.

Prior to running on the pitch and likely getting arrested, he took some time to live tweet the process.

He even had a friend record a live periscope of it happening.
