Prior to Thursday, CC Sabathia had thrown 48,412 pitches during his major league career. He’s thrown so many pitches, the actual act of doing so has to be second nature. Yet, this still happened.

Okay a few things here:
- That has to be incredibly embarrassing. I once slipped on some ice and fell while walking in college. Roughly four people saw it happen. I was still mortified for a week. I can’t even imagine what it would feel like to fall down while trying to throw a pitch in front of thousands of people with even more watching on TV.
- To add insult to embarrassment, Sabathia was called for a balk on the play. The ball got away from him during the fall, allowing the runner to advance anyway. The umpires could have just left it at that, no harm would have been done. Instead it goes down as a balk so CC will never be able to forget it when he looks back at his career numbers.
- All of this happened on his birthday. Awww, buddy.
