What you’re watching here are two youth girls soccer teams fully aware they both needed only a draw to advance to the semifinals. At a certain point, both teams decided to stop wearing themselves out in the brutal heat and just accept the 0-0 result. Both teams went from playing soccer to just lightly knocking the ball around and having a generally okay time.
They could have cranked it up to full throttle and done everything they could to score a goal, but trying to score could have left them vulnerable to giving up a goal. They were also dealing with intense temperatures that were going to drain their energy heading into the next game. Trying is the most dangerous thing a person can do. Most young people don’t realize that, but these girls are clearly wise beyond their years. Very impressive.
