Jordy Nelson is playing NFC Championship in serious bulletproof vest

James Dator
James Dator has been covering a wide range of sports for SB Nation for over a decade, with a special focus on the NFL.

Injured players wearing special vests is nothing new. Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick have worn ballistic vests in the past to protect their ribs, but Jordy Nelson’s vest for the NFC Championship is something else entirely.

The list of materials used in the vest is frankly staggering. It has elements of a ballistic blast shield, Kevlar, and a force dispersion pad to direct hits away from his injured ribs. It’s important to note that this is a modified vest, so it’s not like he’s playing in your standard issue bulletproof vest — but the dude is still playing in an NFL game at one of the sports’ most active positions.

This is wild.
