A football player somehow popping out of the pile and running is a singular sports joy. On Monday night, Carson Wentz channeled his inner escape artist on one spectacular run:

No fewer than four Washington defenders were on top of him, trying to bring him down — but Carson somehow escaped the pile and ran for 17 yards on third-and-8 to drive down the field for a critical touchdown in the fourth quarter.
The escape is incredible, but the context is important too. Had Wentz not escaped up the middle, the Eagles would have been punting instead of draining another three minutes off the clock and scoring. This escape play really helped define the game.
I haven’t seen escape work like this since that iguana outran the snakes on Planet Earth II.
