College GameDay’s visiting Ohio State this week to hype up their game against Penn State, which is interesting because the show was at Penn State last week. That means we got back-to-back weeks with Penn State signs, albeit with more mockery, because there ain’t no love for Saquon Barkley at Ohio State.
Why Ohio State’s ‘College GameDay’ signs had so much Columbus Crew SC love
Columbus loves its college football, but it loves its MLS team, too.
But aside from that, Buckeyes fans also used College GameDay as an opportunity to show support for Columbus Crew SC, which will possibly relocate to Austin, Texas. SB Nation’s Matt Brown, a Columbus native, wrote about how the move would be a huge blow to the city:
It sucks to potentially lose that. Not only an American home for the beautiful game. It sucks to lose the memories of yelling and singing with a bunch of scarf-wearing strangers while eating a bratwurst. It sucks to lose a stadium that gave our country some of its biggest soccer moments … even if it did have a goofy, permanently affixed concert stage in the back.
Columbus is still in the MLS Cup playoffs, so they’re clearly doing well, but apparently, it’s not enough to stay.
