Unveiled in Kolkata, it’s supposed to represent Maradona during the 1986 World Cup. Except it looks like Sylvester Stallone, if he was asked to be in a small, off-Broadway play about the rise of disco.
“I am not god of football but a simple footballer. I’m happy to be here in Kolkata again. It’s amazing to have my statue here.”
I consider myself a connoisseur of bad statues, and this one is really something special. This looks like Mrs. Doubtfire, if Mrs. Doubtfire was played by Joe Pesci. Heck, even the statue knows its ugly and is searching for the perfect selfie angle.
This has truly been the year of bad statues, and I hope the trend continues forever.
