Think of the saddest song you ever heard. Maybe it’s Johnny Cash’s cover of “Hurt,” or Brandy’s “Brokenhearted,” or Sufjan Stevens’ “The Only Thing.” Now apply that sadness to this sad bear mascot, sitting all alone at the top of the bleachers, wondering where everything went wrong.
Devastated bear mascot gets heartwarming hug from kindhearted child

On Saturday, during a State AA girl’s basketball tournament in Montana, Billings West (the mascot’s school) suffered a rough elimination. Obviously, the bear did not take the loss well. But Brian Crosby, head coach of C.M. Russell High School, captured the sweet moment when his son Cooper went up to the bear mascot to console it. The bear hugged him back, and then Cooper let go so he could cover his ears before the buzzer rang. (Hey, I understand Cooper here — I hated loud noises when I was young, too.)
Not every mascot can be as cuddly as this bear or Sad Sochi Bear, but if the opportunity arises, maybe follow Cooper’s footsteps and give that sad mascot a hug — except King Cake Baby. King Cake Baby is never sad, and therefore you never have to hug him.
