Lindsey Harris may only be a sophomore at Fultondale High School in the suburbs of Birmingham, Ala., but she already may have weathered the worst sports call she will ever experience in her entire life.
There are bad calls by softball umpires, but this one takes the proverbial cake
When you step on the bag in softball before the ball gets there, you’re safe, right? Not according to this Alabama high school ump.

Harris gave the ball a smack to shallow infield in the Wildcats’ road game against Minor High School. She sprinted down the first base line, easily outrunning the throw by nearly a full second.
Suddenly, the umpire calls her out.
Wait. What? Out?
Hit. Run. Tag the base. A full second later, the ball arrives to the first base player’s glove.
Safe. At least according to the rules of the game and pretty much anyone who watched the play.
Don’t worry. It wasn’t a game-changing call, as Fultondale went on to win convincingly, 19-8. Of course, that was after the umpire made Harris go back to the dugout after she initially refused to leave the base while her coach argued the call.
But just in case you’re a nonbeliever — how?!? There’s no way an ump would make such a bad call! Prove it! — Kristi Jennings, who was a spectator at the game, shot a video of the play, and a senior from Fultondale High School named Kayla Jasper posted it on her Twitter account for you to see and make your own decision:

Out? Well...not really. Who knows what the umpire was watching, but according to a quote by Jasper in The North Jefferson News, it was pretty clear he would have rather been somewhere else.
“We didn’t play our best, but it felt even better to win because of that umpire. He just wanted to go home,” said Jasper.
