Last September, Landon Donovan came out of retirement to rejoin the LA Galaxy, playing for the remainder of the 2016 MLS season. He retired again after the season was done and confirmed to Yahoo Sports on Thursday that he was serious this time:
Landon Donovan jumped off a food truck and crowd-surfed on U.S. soccer fans

“Yeah, I’m done,” Donovan said. “I’m done. No more playing for me.”
“I have not [gone public]. But that is definitely the case.”
He’ll have the rest of his life to relax, work as an analyst on FS1, and, well, do some stunts with fans, apparently. Donovan’s in San Jose this weekend for Friday’s World Cup qualifier between the U.S. and Honduras. But late Thursday night, he, Alexi Lalas, and Fox Sports’ Rob Stone jumped off a food truck and surfed the crowd. You know, as you do. (Warning: some f-bombs were dropped in these videos.)
This should probably happen at every U.S. soccer match moving forward — at every U.S. Soccer game, Landon Donovan should find a food truck and crowd-surf off it. This should be his running bit now, like Lee Corso putting on mascot heads at every College GameDay or The Starters’ Trey Kerby doing cannonballs every summer.
