Ski jumping is one of those sports we don’t appreciate often enough for just how bananas it is. Earlier this week, 23-year-old Stefan Kraft broke the world record by jumping an astonishing 253.5 meters (831 feet):
An Austrian ski jumper set a new world record with this ludicrous 830-foot jump

This video is nothing short of remarkable. He hangs in the air for a full eight seconds after the jump and honestly looks like he’s flying. Kraft doesn’t quite stick the landing perfectly, but who can blame him? Ski jumpers are normally used to landing on the slope, not on the flat.
The only sad part about this is a second jumper, poor Robert Johansson of Norway. He broke the previous world record earlier in the day — which was a monumental achievement — then had to watch as his newly minted record was smashed.
