Colin Kaepernick is making his way to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. The veteran quarterback’s decision to kneel in order to highlight the racial injustice in America spread through all sports last year, as athletes in various leagues joined him.

Some items that once belonged to Kaepernick were donated to the Smithsonian last year by sociologist Harry Edwards. And although they are currently not on display yet, Edwards urged Smithsonian director Lonnie Bunch to feature the items, including a jersey Kaepernick wore during his protest, as soon as possible:

“I said, ‘Don’t wait 50 years to try to get some memorabilia and so forth on Kaepernick ... Let me give you a game jersey, some shoes, a picture … And it should be put right there alongside Muhammad Ali. He’s this generation’s Ali.’”

The items are expected to be on rotation in an exhibit within 2 years, according to USA Today.

Kaepernick is currently a free agent who may land with the Seattle Seahawks as a backup to Russell Wilson. In the meantime, Kaepernick is keeping busy sending food and goods to Somalia and supplying suits to those recently released from prison.
