Juan Martin del Potro went above and beyond to console his injured French Open opponent

There was a heartbreaking scene at Roland Garros during the French Open on Thursday when Nicolás Almagro was forced to withdraw from his match against Juan Martín del Potro.

Two games into the third set, Almagro realized he couldn’t continue due to his knee — which was heavily taped before the match. Almagro has been dealing with injuries the past few years, and the realization he couldn’t continue in France was too much.

Almost immediately, Del Potro climbed over the net to console his opponent.

Del Potro didn’t stop there, and kept helping Almagro, packing his tennis bag for him, and helping him off the court.

This was a horrible moment that gave way to showing us what sports are all about.
