This emotional high school football touchdown represents why sports can be good

Two teams at a preseason high school football game gave a fellow student an amazing moment on Friday night. Jake, an 18-year-old Vestavia Hills senior with Down syndrome, geared up for the final play of the game, and scored a touchdown in front of everyone. According to AL.com, Jake’s been part of the team for a couple seasons as a manager, and while the moment was planned, what wasn’t planned was everyone’s reaction on the sideline. Everyone was going wild for him -- the players, the cheerleaders, the students, the crowd, from both sides of the field.
After his touchdown, Jake got to the sideline and celebrated even more, pumping the crowd up with such enthusiasm. He even did the “Hit Dem Folks” dance, in front of the crowd and then again with the players! It was incredibly cool and touching to see everyone rally around and show love to Jake as he was living out a dream on the field.
