Boxing weigh-in ends with a kid punching his dad’s opponent in the nuts
Willie Monroe Jr. was just being nice to Billy Joe Saunders’ kid. Then, BAM.
The child doing the punching is the son of Billy Joe Saunders, the boxer on the left and current WBO middleweight champion. He’s defending that title on Saturday night in London against American Willie Monroe Jr., the guy his son hit.
Saunders defended his son on Twitter, saying he reacted to a stranger putting his hands on him. Monroe hit out at the promoter on Instagram, and also said that he’s repeatedly had racial slurs directed at him since he arrived in London.
A day before the weigh-in, the press conference for the fight got weird, with the two fighters insulting each other in lieu of taking questions for a long time. But as weird as that was, it’s unlikely anyone saw this feud escalating to one of the fighters’ kids coming on stage during the weigh-ins to stage a surprise attack.
