On Friday, Russell Westbrook agreed to a five-year, $205 million extension with the Thunder, giving everyone in Oklahoma City a reason to celebrate. But no one in OKC is celebrating harder than the city’s mayor Mick Cornett. You might recall last year that Cornett declared August 4 to be “Russell Westbrook Day,” to coincide with Westbrook signing an extension. This year, Cornett mayored the hell out of this new contract extension by making every day in OKC “Russell Westbrook Day.”
OKC’s mayor is mayoring so hard over Russell Westbrook’s extension
Mayor’s gotta mayor.

Cornett also had a good mayor/dad joke after the news broke by calling Westbrook a millennial:
How proud is Cornett of his joke? Very proud:
Yes, these are cheesy gestures, but it’s also endearing to see a mayor represent his city so hard, especially after the NBA’s most valuable player, who’s getting paid even more stacks on stacks on stacks, decided to stick around for much longer. You can’t blame Mayor Cornett and Thunder fans celebrating today, which, uh, also happens to be Kevin Durant’s birthday. That’s ... a coincidence, right?
