Attendees at the Chicago Marathon Expo got a chance to see what it’s like to run like a legend. Eliud Kipchoge set a new world record At the 2018 Berlin Marathon by running a 2:01:39, so the expo set up a giant treadmill mimicking a street to see how long people could keep up with his pace. Turns out it’s near impossible.
What happens when average people try to run like a marathon world record holder?
This is great.

Asking people to run just 200 meters at Kipchoge’s pace proved to be too much for most people, with some falling down and being flung off the treadmill itself. In order to run a 2:01:39 people needed to keep a 13 mile-per-hour pace, which is astonishingly quick for the average person even over just a short distance, let alone being expected to keep it up for two straight hours.
This is just proof that athletes like Eliud Kipchoge are not like the rest of us.
