Jeffrey Earnhardt honored his grandfather, Dale Earnhardt Sr., with an incredible helmet at Daytona

This is so great.

The 60th running of the Daytona 500 marks the start of NASCAR season, but it’s a bittersweet occasion. It was 17 years ago today that Dale Earnhardt Sr. tragically lost his life at the race, but his legacy lives on.

Jeffrey Earnhardt is wearing a custom helmet honoring his grandfather’s iconic image. It’s a small way to make sure that we all remember a man who helped make the sport what it is today.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. took to social media earlier in the day to thank everyone for messages, and he explained why he had been silent for much of the day.

Legends never die, indeed.
