France’s Mae Berenice Maite proves that Beyonce songs are actually great for figure skating
Put a medal on it.

Now that figure skaters can use songs with lyrics for their programs, it’s an easy way to capture the hearts of the judges and audience with something they can all enjoy. We’ve seen a bunch of Hallelujahs, Beatles, and Elvis. But those song selections are arguably too safe. You need something that’ll have people ecstatic.
That’s why you pick Beyonce.
France’s Mae Berenice Maite did just that. She skated her short program to Beyonce’s “Run the World (Girls).” It’s a song that’s as recognizable as the others, but since it was released more recently than the other it made the performance that much better. At the end of her program, the 20-year old ended in sixth, which was enough to qualify.
More people should pick Beyonce as a song for their programs. I would even go far as to recommend the Olympics adopt a Beyonce song-only competition. Can you imagine someone following a skate to “Run the World” with a program to “Formation?” Everyone can enjoy that.
