Jordan Bohannon has been a free-throw machine for Iowa, but on Sunday night the Hawkeyes’ point guard bricked one on purpose. All because he refused to break the record of an Iowa legend.
Iowa’s point guard intentionally missed a free throw so he wouldn’t break a school record
Jordan Bohannon wanted to make sure Chris Street’s legacy lived on.

Iowa’s Chris Street held the school record for consecutive free throws at 34, before he was tragically killed in a car accident. The record had stood for 25 years, until this season when Bohannon went on a run and sank 34 straight of his own. The pair were tied, and Bohannon easily could have set a new mark for the school — but he didn’t feel right about breaking it.
After the game Bohannon explained why he chose to brick the free throw.
“That’s not my record to have. Obviously that record deserves to stay in his name. I’ve been really close with his family these past couple of years, and getting to know them a lot and I just listened to his story. Honestly, it’s got me really emotional these past couple of games, because I knew what I wanted to do.”
Bohannon got sent back to the line after intentionally missing the free throw and sunk two straight. He finished with 25 points, leading the Hawkeyes to a win in their home finale. After the game Street’s parents, who are season ticket holders, embraced Bohannon on the court and spoke to the Des Moines Register.
“Christopher would want him to do to the best he could do and stay after it, but that was Jordan’s decision, and if that’s what he wanted to do, then we appreciate it. We certainly in the future want him to get another shot at it.”
Some things are bigger than records and personal glory, and, on Sunday, Bohannon proved that.
