Technology is a beautiful thing. It’s letting you read this right now, because the internet is magic — but we’re also learning the horrors of what happens when technology is paired with regular human fallibility.
Tiger or raccoon? Use this flowchart to determine what animal is loose in your city.
One New Yorker confused a raccoon with a tiger. We’re here to help.

The NYPD got a call around 8:30 a.m. from someone claiming to have seen a tiger walking around Harlem. This triggered a notification being sent out to users of “Citizen,” an app which notifies users of crimes in their geographic area. Naturally people were scared.
Turns out the reports were wrong, and seeing this unfold via app updates is delightful.
The whole thing has spurned a host jokes about New Yorkers and their inability to tell wild animals apart, but instead of getting all snarky I’ve decided to offer a helpful guide on whether you have a tiger on your hands, or a raccoon.
Hope this helps.
