A Texas woman was the biggest winner at the Kentucky Derby this weekend when her $18 bet resulted in a $1.2 million payout.

The woman, who does not want to be identified, placed a Pick 5 bet in which she correctly picked Justify to win the Kentucky Derby, as well as the winners of the four races leading up to the derby itself.
Five races might not seem like a lot, but it’s the odds that she took in all five races that are staggering.
- Churchill Downs: Limousine Liberal, 10-1
- American Turf Stakes: Maraud, 8-1
- Pat Day Mile: Funny Duck, 39-1
- Old Forester Turf Classic: Yoshida, 9-1
- Kentucky Derby: Justify, 7-2
Nothing was chalk outside of Justify, with the rest (especially Funny Duck) being fairly long odds to win. Couple that with the heavy rain at the track and having everything line up was incredible.
A spokesperson for Retama Park, where the bet was placed, has never seen anything like it. Speaking to ABC News she said:
“It’s extremely rare,” Bagnetto said. “To bet that little amount of money and win $1.2 million is unheard of. In fact, it’s the first time it’s happened at Retama.”
Not bad for an afternoon’s work.
