Washington cornerback Josh Norman and Saints linebacker Demario Davis couldn’t sit at home and watch what was unfolding at the border without doing something. The pair traveled to San Antonio, and together they went on a 3 a.m. shopping spree at Walmart, filling carts and grabbing as many toys as they could.

This is love.

The next morning they were waiting for children who had been separated from their parents and detained by border control to give them gifts on their release. They knew it wasn’t much, but the pair wanted to make a harrowing situation just a little bit better. They spent much of the morning filling book bags with toys and essentials, creating care packages to show these children that people cared about them.
Norman said the mission was simple, according to the Washington Post, “We’re here to save the world, one little kid at a time.”
The pair met families who were released from detainment, and spoke to them through a translator to spread their message of love. When it was all said and done they’d handed out dozens of backpacks to children, and gave away 20 boxes of pizza to those released.
Norman and Davis worked with the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES), who have been tirelessly working to provide low-cost legal services and assistance to immigrants and families who were separated under the Trump Administration’s “zero tolerance” policy. That policy has since been rescinded, but approximately 2,000 children have yet to be reunited by their parents, according to the Washington Post.
The love that Norman and Davis showed at a critical time should not be forgotten.
