Game update: With their 5-1 win, the Blue Jays moved closer to clinching the AL East. But that will have to wait until Sunday, as the Yankees defeated the Orioles.

The 2025 Major League Baseball season enters its final weekend today.

And with three teams battling for two spots in the American League, two teams fighting for the final spot in the National League, and a host of division titles and seedings left to determine, the final weekend of play could be one for the ages.

One of the biggest games on the slate comes from the Rogers Centre in Toronto, where the Blue Jays play host to the Tampa Bay Rays. While the Rays have been eliminated from postseason play, Toronto is closing in on both an AL East title and the top seed in the American League.

Let’s dive into Toronto’s playoff picture.

Rays’ playoff picture

The Rays enter play on Saturday with a 77-83 record and have been eliminated from the playoffs. They’re playing the role of potential spoilers, but they cannot keep the Blue Jays out of the playoffs.

They can only make Toronto’s playoff road a little harder.

Blue Jays’ playoff picture

With a 92-68 record, the Blue Jays have clinched a playoff spot. They are also closing in on a division title, and with the Seattle Mariners losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night, that means that the winner of the AL East will be the top seed in the American League playoffs.

That means the road to the World Series could run through the Rogers Centre in the American League.

However, the Blue Jays enter play on Saturday with the same record as the New York Yankees. Toronto holds a tiebreaker over the Yankees based on their 8-5 record against New York this season, so they could clinch the East today. To do that, they would need to win against Tampa Bay, and they would need the Yankees to lose to the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday afternoon.

Any other combination, and the AL East crown goes down to the final day.
