Derek Lowe left his team in a difficult situation when he was removed with the bases loaded and only one out. And sure enough, the Giants were able to cash in against the Braves' bullpen, although it wasn't without a little defensive help.
Braves Vs. Giants, NLDS Game 4: Cody Ross Puts Giants In The Lead
Facing Peter Moylan, Juan Uribe hit a grounder to shortstop Alex Gonzalez, who flipped the ball to second base. Gonzalez's throw, though, was too high and it pulled Omar Infante off the bag, allowing everybody to reach and the tying run to score.
Bobby Cox came out to remove Moylan and bring in Jonny Venters, and Venters was able to pick up a critical out when he whiffed Aaron Rowand, who was pinch-hitting for Mike Fontenot. Yet he still had to go through Cody Ross, and on a 1-0 count, Ross grounded a ball past short and into left field for the go-ahead base hit.
Buster Posey scored on the play to give the Giants a 3-2 lead. Matt Diaz threw a strike to home plate to nail Pat Burrell, who was also trying to score, but the damage had been done.
Santiago Casilla is on to pitch the bottom of the seventh for the Giants in relief of Madison Bumgarner. Bumgarner's performance:
6 IP
6 hits
2 runs
1 walk
5 strikeouts
85 pitches (57 strikes)
