Previous reports that the Brewers were close to hiring Bob Brenly to replace the dismissed Ken Macha have proven untrue, as the team remains in search of its next field manager. Perhaps the most prominent name among their list of interview candidates? Bob Melvin.
Brewers To Interview Bob Melvin, Several Others In Search For Manager
I just made contact with Bob Melvin and he said he has been invited to interview with the Brewers next week for their managerial vacancy.
Melvin has been considered a favorite by many for the opening because the Brewers liked him when he interviewed previously in 2002 for the job that eventually went to Ned Yost. Since then, Melvin has managed Seattle and Arizona, taking the Diamondbacks to the NLCS in 2007. He was dismissed by the D-Backs early in the 2009 season and has been scouting for the Mets.
Melvin, though, is just one of up to ten people the Brewers may interview before making a decision. He’s also one of many people on the Brewers’ list who has or is planning to interview for other current managerial openings around the league, along with established baseball men like Eric Wedge and Tim Wallach.
