Joe Buck And Tim McCarver Think Pat Burrell Homered In Roy Halladay’s Perfect Game, Or Something

Wait. Did Buck and McCarver just say Buster Posey was called up on the same day that Roy Halladay threw a perfect game against the Marlins, which was also the same day that Pat Burrell hit a home run in his return to Philadelphia? WHAT?! They did?

McCarver: I see what you're driving at, that (Buster Posey's) the Rookie of the Year choice of yours. He certainly is of mine. Didn't come up until May 29th. That, coincidentally, is the same day that Roy Halladay pitched a perfect game against the Florida Marlins. And here they are facing one another.

Buck: And isn't that the same day that Burrell went deep here in Philadelphia?

McCarver: Right, right.

Buck: In his return with the Giants. That pitch is inside, and the count, three and one.

In fairness, it is sort of a neat tidbit that Posey was called up on the same day Halladay threw his perfect game. But in conflating that with a totally unrelated tidbit about Burrell hitting a homer in his return to Philadelphia — which did happen, but on August 17th — Buck takes things a bit too far, and invents either a) some sort of bizarre day-night double-header the Phillies played in both Philadelphia and Miami or b) the first perfect game in which a guy from another team hit a homer or c) some other team that plays in Philadelphia that the Giants could have played.

But at least it's not like Burrell was still a member of the Tampa Bay Rays on May 29th; he was just signed by the Giants on May 29th, which might explain Buck's confusion. I'm not entirely sure why Buck would have brought up the date Burrell signed with the Giants and its connection to Roy Halladay, but I haven't read a Dan Brown book in a while.
