Phillies Vs. Giants, NLCS Game 4: Ryan Madson Works Out Of Huge Jam

This game very nearly got away from the Phillies. They already gave away the lead in the sixth and couldn't score in the seventh, but immediately following the stretch, the Giants put together a threat that could've knocked the Phillies out.

Buster Posey doubled and Pat Burrell walked with one out, and Jimmy Rollins then bobbled a Cody Ross grounder to short, allowing everybody to reach. That brought Pablo Sandoval to the plate with the bases loaded, just an inning after his double put the Giants on top.

And facing Ryan Madson, Sandoval worked a long, eight-pitch at bat that saw him fall behind 1-2. But on a 2-2 count, Sandoval grounder a slider sharply to second base, where Chase Utley was able to begin an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play.

So the game remains 5-4 Giants going into the eighth, and Javier Lopez remains on the mound to face the lefty Ryan Howard.
