The Milwaukee Brewers have been searching for a replacement for manager Ken Macha for a few weeks now, and recently they had narrowed their pool of candidates down to a handful of finalists. Bob Melvin was in there. Joey Cora was in there. No one was really sure about the others, but Tuesday night word began to spread that Bobby Valentine, of all people, was in the mix. And now? Now there are rumors that Valentine is going to be the guy:
Report: Brewers To Hire Bobby Valentine As Manager
Bill Scott of Wisconsin Radio Network says Brewers have agreement in principle with Bobby Valentine to be manager. I'm looking into it.
This, obviously, has not yet been confirmed, and can be considered to be in the rumor stage. The Brewers have already dealt with one false report that strongly linked them to Bob Brenly. However, this isn’t coming out of nowhere, and there is a very good possibility that Valentine and the Brewers really have reached an agreement. Valentine is available, the Brewers need a manager, and the team could use something to drum up a little excitement.
We will await confirmation. Right now, though, it sure seems like Valentine has found his spot. After getting some consideration for the managerial vacancies in Seattle, Toronto, and Florida, Milwaukee may be his new home, where he would inherit a team that is two years removed from making the playoffs for the first time since 1982.
