So we're starting to see a little more offense show up. After the first three half innings all went by 1-2-3, the last three have each seen hits. But we still don't have our first run of the contest, due to some great pitching by Matt Cain and C.J. Wilson.
World Series Game 2, Rangers Vs. Giants: Matt Cain, C.J. Wilson Work Around Hits In Third
In the top of the third, Cain came out and got Matt Treanor to fly out on a 3-1 count. The next batter, though, was Mitch Moreland, and Moreland drilled a liner into right field for a single - the Rangers' first hit of the game.
Treanor wound up getting bunted to second by Wilson, who laid a good one down the line. That put a runner in scoring position for leadoff hitter Elvis Andrus. But Andrus sent a can of corn Andres Torres' way, and the inning was over.
Out came Wilson for his half. And he ran into trouble when, with one out, Cain came up and sent a grounder back up the middle. Andrus ranged over but couldn’t pick the ball out of the grass, giving Cain a base hit.
But Cain, like Moreland, wound up stuck. Torres flew out to the right-center gap - a gap that wouldn't have been covered a night ago, with Vladimir Guerrero in the outfield - and Freddy Sanchez bounced an easy grounder to Andrus at short to end it.
To the fourth we go, tied at 0-0. Pitch counts are 33 and 44 for Cain and Wilson, respectively.
