In the fifth inning, we finally got our first run of the game. The Giants now hold a 1-0 lead, and are 12 outs away from a 2-0 series advantage.
World Series Game 2, Rangers Vs. Giants: Edgar Renteria Home Run Snaps Scoreless Tie
Ian Kinsler very nearly gave the Rangers the first run when he led off against Matt Cain in the top half and sent a long, long fly ball to center field. However, his fly wound up just about an inch or two shy of leaving the yard:
Kinsler wound up at second base with a leadoff double, and the Rangers had three chances to drive him in. But David Murphy lined out right at Edgar Renteria at short. Matt Treanor then grounded out, again to Renteria. And the Giants elected to walk Mitch Moreland intentionally so as to face C.J. Wilson, who bounced out to end the frame. Kinsler was stranded in scoring position, and the game remained scoreless.
It stayed there for a little bit in the bottom half, when Juan Uribe was first up and struck out. But then Wilson threw eighth place hitter Renteria an 0-1 fastball high and inside, and Renteria turned on it. He didn't hit the snot out of the pitch, but he sent a long fly to deep left that was plenty deep to clear the fence. Renteria rounded the bases with a solo home run, and the Giants jumped into the lead.
Matt Cain and Andres Torres made easy outs to end it, but the Giants are now where they want to be. Cain has thrown 61 pitches through five.
