The big question whenever any National League team plays in an American League ballpark is which player is going to slot in at DH. That was the question Bruce Bochy and the Giants were facing as they flew from San Francisco to Texas for Saturday's Game 3.
World Series Game 3: Pablo Sandoval Finds Way Into Giants Starting Lineup
Bochy had a number of options. Travis Ishikawa could play first base, while Aubrey Huff could DH. Pablo Sandoval could come off the bench to DH. Aaron Rowand or Nate Schierholtz could start in the outfield, and Pat Burrell could DH. Bochy has made his decision, although it may only apply to Game 3:
ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Giants will start Pablo Sandoval at designated hitter for Game 3 of the World Series today, but manager Bruce Bochy said he plans to employ more than one player in that slot before the club returns home.
Bochy has hinted strongly that first baseman Travis Ishikawa will get a start in Texas -- probably in Game 4, with Aubrey Huff moving to DH. It would be a prime chance for Ishikawa, who is 2 for 7 off the bench and finished seventh in the NL with a .319 average as a pinch hitter.
So it's Sandoval on Saturday, and apparently Huff on Sunday. We'll see about Monday, if Monday even has a game.
The switch-hitting Sandoval will bat eighth against the right-handed Colby Lewis. Juan Uribe and Edgar Renteria both remain in the lineup, with Mike Fontenot on the bench.
